What is the Jeep® 4xe Powertrain?
Jeep 4xe® models are plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEV). Like a regular hybrid, a PHEV uses an electric motor to reduce the workload of a gas-powered engine, resulting in improved fuel economy, reduced emissions, and, often, more responsive acceleration. However, a PHEV motor is more powerful and paired with a larger-capacity battery. This setup not only increases efficiency over a standard hybrid but also enables the electric powertrain to propel the vehicle on its own. PHEVs have significantly larger batteries and require external charging to maximize their performance. However, they can function as normal using only gasoline. That makes PHEVs a great way to get the EV experience without worrying about range anxiety.
Jeep® 4xe Performance, Range, and Charging
The Jeep 4xe powertrain combines a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with a plug-in electric powertrain to produce a robust 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. A swift and smooth-shifting eight-speed automatic transmission helps keep power in the ideal rev range for optimal responsiveness and efficiency.
A 17.3-kWh battery supplies power for the electric motor and can be charged in around three hours using Level 2 (240-volt, 7.2-kW) equipment. However, you don't necessarily need to install a special charging setup to enjoy plug-in hybrid benefits. Jeep 4xe models can charge overnight (11 - 12 hours) using a standard 3-pin, 120-volt household-style wall outlet.

Building on the brand's Zero Emission Freedom goal, the Jeep Wrangler 4xe offers improved efficiency and all-electric drivability while still delivering the same trail-conquering ability outdoor enthusiasts expect from the legendary nameplate. The Wrangler 4xe is also capable of a truly open-air experience thanks to its removable doors, fold-down windshield, and multiple removable hard-top and soft-top roof options. Beginning with the 2024 model year, the Jeep Wrangler 4xe comes standard with a 12.3-inch Uconnect® 5 touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, Full-Speed Forward-Collision Warning Plus, and Adaptive Cruise Control.

It utilizes the same plug-in hybrid powertrain and 17.3-kWh battery as the Jeep Wrangler 4xe, achieving an EPA-estimated 56 MPGe and enabling an estimated 25 miles of all-electric range.1
Standard Quadra-Trac II® 4WD and a Selec-Terrain® Traction Management System give the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe confident capability for your daily drives and when venturing beyond the asphalt. The rugged Trailhawk® trim comes exclusively with the plug-in hybrid powertrain and includes adventure-ready equipment like all-terrain tires, a disconnecting stabilizer bar, air suspension, and an electronic limited-slip rear differential.
