The 2017 Dodge Durango is a throwback of sorts: it's the kind of brawny SUV that used to dominate the category twenty years ago, with muscular styling, a big available V8 engine and real four-wheel drive tons of towing power, and room inside for a small army or enough gear to outfit one. Edmunds.com recently had the opportunity to review this year's Durango and praises its power, spaciousness and off-road capability.
The Dodge Durango comes standard with a 3.6-liter V6 that makes an impressive 290 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. An eight-speed automatic and rear-wheel drive are standard, and all-wheel drive is optional. For serious power and towing needs, however, you'll want the 5.7-liter HEMI V8: it cranks out 360 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque, and can tow up to 7,400 pounds.
The 2017 Durango is available in four trim levels: SXT, GT, Citadel and R/T. The Citadel is very nicely equipped, with xenon headlights, automatic high beans, upgraded brakes, roof-rail crossbars, a sunroof, a power liftgate, and heated and ventilated front seats and heated second-row seating. The second row can be had as a traditional bench or configured with two captain's chairs, which make the third row much more accessible. The R/T gets you the V8 engine standard, an upgraded steering system, a sport-tuned suspension and a Beats audio system.
